DEVELOPMENT OF A VALIDATION FRAMEWORK FOR MENTORING:
EVALUATING THE ACHIEVEMENTS OF DISABLED AND DISADVANTAGED PEOPLE
 VALIDATION OF MENTORING

This is a transnational project funded under measure C, thematic actions, within the framework of the Leonardo da Vinci programme of the EC. The main goal of the project is to support the work career of young disabled people through development and validation of mentoring programmes. The project creates three new programmes for disabled people in Romania, Bulgaria and Slovenia. The project activities assist the understanding of disability among employers and trainers.

THE PROJECT OBJECTIV: To create a new procedure for validation of mentoring programmes as a successful instrument for informal education for disabled or other disadvantaged people.

THE PROJECT SPECIFIC AIMS :
1. To identify and evaluate key features of existing mentoring programmes in order to establish the range and variety of:
- Anticipated outcomes
- Systems used to achieve these aims, including selection and induction of mentees and mentors, training for mentees and mentors, monitoring procedures,
- Any systems for validation and recognition of the outcomes achieved by mentoring
2. To implement and adapt the mentoring programmes in Romania, Bulgaria and Slovenia according to national and cultural specifics of the countries
3. To test and assess the validation systems in order that they may be improved
4. To present a proposal  for successful usage of the mentoring programmes and their validation according to the needs of the target groups.
5. To test, evaluate these validation systems and, in response to the outcomes, revise and enhance them for broad use.
6. To develop proposals for the use of mentoring and for its validation, in relation to the needs of other people disadvantaged in the labour market.
7. To identify best practices of  mentoring  schemed designed for disabled and disadvantaged people across Europe

TARGET GROUP: Employers, Disabled people, Other people disadvantaged in the open labour market

TARGET SECTORS: Service sector,  IT Sector, Restaurants & Hotels

BENEFICIARIES: Employers, including personnel/human resources staff; Disabled people; Other disadvantaged people at the labour market; Careers advisors; Policy makers

RESULTS:
A special website with relevant information available in project languages - English, Bulgarian, Romanian, Slovenian and Greek;
Questionnaires targeted at different focus groups in different countries in order to analyze the needs of the users;
Paper-based, CD-ROM and Internet-based materials of Mentoring package translated in Romanian and Slovenian and adapted to different focus groups;
Internet and paper-based guide for validation criteria and procedures in each language;
Mentoring schemes, developed specifically for disabled people and other disadvantaged groups;
Codes of practice in English and Bulgarian in the form of case studies;
Internet and paper-based guide for validation of mentoring in each language.

Grundtvig, 10 years of european innovation in adult education

Adult Education Comission of European Union (General Direction for Education and Culture) started European Year

The Adult education unit of the European Commission (DG Education and Culture) has marked the start of the European Year for combating Poverty and Social Exclusion and the launch of the 10th anniversary celebrations of the Grundtvig programme with a successful conference:

The conference brought together 330 experts in the field of adult learning, European, national, regional and local policy-makers, representatives of successful Grundtvig projects as well as any individual or organisation interested in the field. It offered thematic key speeches, project cases, and reflections about the future of adult learning in Europe.
H Foundation was invited at Conference.

1 Noiembrie 2009, VOCA extended - Increased accessibility to vocational training and increased attachment to the labour market for disabled people through the VOCA Europe 2 Mentor model

The project will support participants of VOCA courses in further training activities for developing a mentor skills and profession, for mentoring the disabled people in integration to the working environment and to a new job. Thus, mentors will use the knowledge, skills and qualifications gathered via VOCA courses both existing and in the new field and localized in new regions. VOCA will also support improvements in quality and innovation in vocational education and training systems targeting mentoring disabled people and further improve practices present in this field.
